چکیده

In two experiments involving the delayed alternation task, monkeys with lesions of the hippocampal formation and monkeys with lesions of cingulate cortex were compared with controls. Either of these lesions caused impairment in original postoperative learning of delayed alternation; the hippocampal formation resections also produced a deficit in the retention of preoperatively acquired delayed alternation. The findings support the suggestion that these medial fore-brain areas are related to cerebral systems which include the anterior frontal cortex, and that these areas are necessary to more than "emotional" behavior.

Hippocampal electrical activity in the monkey during delayed alternation problems.

.... 1 I .. , A well known effect of lesions of frontal granular cortex and of all limbic structures including the hippocampus is the impairment of the classical delayed spatial alternation problem (Pribram et at. 1952. 1962, 1966; Mishkin and Pribram 1955; Mishkin 1964; McEnaney and Butter 1969). Not every alternation performance, however. shows a decrement from frontal cortex or medial forebr...

Role of basal stress hormones and amygdala dimensions in stress coping strategies of male rhesus monkeys in response to a hazard-reward conflict

Objective(s): In the present study the effect of stress on monkeys that had learned to retrieve food from a five-chamber receptacle, as well as the relationship between their behavior and the serum cortisol and epinephrine levels and relative size of the amygdala was evaluated. Materials and Methods: Six male rhesus monkeys were individually given access to the food reward orderly. They could e...

The Effect of Electrical Fields from High-Voltage Transmission Line on Cognitive Changes in Male Rhesus Macaque Monkeys: A Biological and Anatomical Study Using MRI Case Report Study

Living near high-voltage power lines and exposure to high-frequency electromagnetic fields (EMFs) is a potential serious hazard to animal and human health. The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of high-frequency EMFs from simulated high-voltage electric towers on cognitive, anatomical, and biological changes in male Macaque. In this study, two Rhesus Macaque were recruited, ...

The behavior of chronic cats with lesions in the frontal association cortex.

Cats with lesions in the proreal and anterior sigmoid gyri and substantial but subtotal degeneration in the mediodorsal thalamic nucleus were studied for 6 years post-operatively. The control group consisted of normal cats matched for age and previous experience. The results reported here and in Warren's previous progress report indicate that frontal cortical lesions result in several behaviora...

Differential effects of amygdala, orbital prefrontal cortex, and prelimbic cortex lesions on goal-directed behavior in rhesus macaques.

We assessed the involvement of the orbital prefrontal cortex (PFo), the prelimbic region of the medial prefrontal cortex (PL), and the amygdala in goal-directed behavior. Rhesus monkeys were trained on a task in which two different instrumental responses were linked to two different outcomes. One response, called "tap," required the monkeys to repeatedly touch a colored square on a video monito...
